Weekend Roundup: January 10 - 11

January 08, 2009

It's the middle of winter, such as it is in Southern California. One of my favorite things about living here is that we can enjoy the outdoors year-round. On Saturday, join a naturalist for a bird walk at the Colorado Lagoon. Admission is $3.00. On Sunday, visit the Madrona Marsh Preserve and Nature Center in Torrance for "Many Lands, Many Stories". At this free event, children can hear tales about nature from all over the world.

Do your kids have the winter blahs? Music is the cure. Kids' musician Justin Roberts is performing at Largo in Los Angeles at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday. Tickets are $15.00. His song Meltdown is in heavy rotation at our house. There are also several kid-friendly musicals around Southern California this weekend. At the Huntington Beach Public Library Theater, you can catch a performance of The Sound of Music on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Seussical the Musical is playing at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach on Saturday at 2:00. Or see Cinderella the Musical at the Santa Monica Playhouse on Saturday or Sunday at 12:30 or 3:00 P.M.

If your child will be entering kindergarten next fall, don't miss the Kindergarten Festival on Saturday at Hughes Middle School from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
