Crafts for a Rainy Christmas Eve

December 24, 2008

Preschool is out, and the weather forecast says it's going to rain in Long Beach today. If you're looking for ways to keep your child's hands busy while you wrap gifts or whip up the Christmas feast, check out these holiday crafts from Savvy Source and around the web:

Kids can make Christmas tree cones with ice cream cones and icing (or cream cheese.) Decorate the cones with sprinkles or candy.

Make a handprint wreath. Start by tracing your child's hand on green construction paper or cardstock. Cut out the center of a paper plate, then glue the handprints around the plate to create a wreath.

All out of wrapping paper? Put the kids to work making more. Start with plain white or brown paper, or even a grocery bag turned inside out. Let kids decorate the paper with holiday stamps or stickers. If you don't have any rubber stamps around the house, cut kitchen sponges into holiday shapes. Kids can dip the sponges in paint to stamp designs on the paper.

Make a reindeer puppet from a paper bag and construction-paper handprints.

Watch this video to see how to use contact paper, cardboard, and tissue paper to make tissue-paper stars.
